Unfortunately, my experience with Reeder's has not been very good. They were called to provide service on a heat-pump system at my mother-in-law's home.
When my wife noticed the heating system was not keeping up with the demand for heat during a recent cold spell (10-20 degrees F low overnight temps).
Before Reeder's was called, I was able to confirm:
1) Thermostat was calling for heat pump AND 3 stage electric heat (all elements on). 2) Heat pump was running and coils warm 3) No comm errors noted on the thermostat 4) The main control board was sending 24 VAC and 220 VAC was present on the relay input terminals 5) All 4 heating elements tested good (not open)
Reeder's was called, and the request for service noted "Axillary heat not working properly" The service tech observed 3 of the 4 heating elements were not powering on when they should be. He noted the heat pump was not running. I gave him all the information I had previously collected, also noting that the thermostat was not currently calling for HP + stage 3 electric. The outside temp had dropped between my initial checks and the tech's arrival, below the temp that the HP will kick on. Based on what he saw on some diagnostic screen (fault log) on the thermostat, he diagnosed it as "Air handler (main board) not communicating w/ thermostat or running properly" and said the system needed a new main board that would have to be ordered.
I called Reeder's the next morning to express my concern with the diagnosis, since ALL indication were that the main board was functioning properly AND communicating with thermostat. I spoke with Bryan and relayed all of the information from my testing. He said he would be sure to have relays on the truck when he came to install the main board.
When Bryan came, he called me to let me know he had completed the install, saying there was 'water damage' to the board, which is common on this system. I asked what part of the main board was not functioning properly he could not provide an answer, just that 90% of the time the main board was the problem. He was ready to leave when I asked him about the relays. He acted surprised but called back in a few minutes to let me know the main board did not fix the problem. He checked the relays and they were not working. He also indicated that he replaced the relays and that did not fix the problem and then added that the main board and the electric heat system (relays/elements/etc.) would all be replaced under warranty. Knowing that the relays were getting 24 VDC and 220 VAC, I am skeptical of the claim that replacing relays would not have fixed it.
A few days later, the entire electric heat part of the system was replaced, and the system was able to reach the setpoint, but unfortunately, that's not the end of the story.
There was an error message on the thermostat, saying there was no communication with the outside unit. Another call to Reeder's to get service. The tech discovered the breaker to the outside unit had never been turned back on after the last service call. While there was no cost to us, this raises a question of how thoroughly the system was checked out by the previous tech on the 3rd visit.
Additionally, when the bill arrived, there was a charge for the original service visit (totally expected) and an additional approximately $170 for labor to install the 'under warranty' electric heating parts. I guess I should have pushed the relay conversation harder, but when he said 'covered by warranty' I didn't realize there would be labor charges for the installation, especially since the original work order (picture attached) says they will provide estimate of cost of parts, and nothing was provided other than "covered by warranty".

I want to give a shout-out to Brian at Reeder Heating and Air. Last week he could have tried to sell me a whole new furnace as my 17 year old furnace's heat exchanger (think engine of a car) went out. Instead, he was honest and told me how Lennox has a 20 year warranty on that part and gave me the option of just having that main part replaced, or a whole new system. As a woman, I especially appreciate this. Not only this, but the total for extra parts and labor came in under my estimate!
